**The Forgotten Rebellion: The Day Sylhet Defied an Empire**


On this day of 1782 (December 16), Sylhet Muslims rebelled first in the subcontinent against the East India Company. The main conflicts of the rebellion were held on the Sylhet Shahi Eidgah and its surrounding hills. It was led by Pirzada and his two brothers Syed Muhammad Hadi and Syed Muhammad Mahdi.

Hindus say that Muslims plan to attack Hindu temples in Sylhet along with the company. But on the basis of intelligence, Collector Lindsay rejected the claim of the Hindus. The Hindus continue to complain over the rebellionSyed Pirzada on the hill identified as Pirzada.

   

Pirzada was a descendant of Syed Hamza Shersowari. His Muridas were in areas like Sylhet, Mymensingh, Comilla. Muslims from all over Bengal and Assam used to come to him in Maharram. In 1782, on the day of Ashura, Pirzada led his brother Syed Muhammad Hadi and Syed Muhammad Mahdi in a Tajiya procession of 300.

    

They were traditionally carrying knives and swords in Tajia.Tajia ends without any significant events. But at 5 pm, the Hindus came to Linds' house with signs of attack on their bodies. Although the Hindus were not settled in the Eidgah and the surrounding hills and there was no possibility of such attack.

   

To investigate the incident, Lindsay's Head Kanungo Masud ordered Bakht to go to Eidgah with 20 soldiers. Before they returned, they joined Lindses with 30 more soldiers. He is PirzadaOrder surrender. It became Muslims. Lindsay attacked the Muslims with his force.

    

Lindsay challenged Pirzada to fight the conflict. Pirzada came forward and broke the sword of Linds in the first hit. Kanungo Masud quickly came to Aguii and gave a pistol to Linds. Lindsay shot Pirzada with a pistol. His two brothers were also shot dead. Leave a platoon troops back to Linds.On the way back, Lindsay was shot.


 However, it is mysterious, because Muslims did not have firearms. One of the company's landlord was killed and 6 people were injured. 4 Muslims died and many people were injured. The death of Pirzada made British rule more unpopular in the Sylhet region. Pirjadar's two brothers Hadi and Mahdi were named after the tiller on the north side of Shahi Eidgah.
