Have you noticed that in the last few years girls are starting periods at the age of 8-10? So our children are growing up prematurely?
At one time, the normal age for girls to start their periods was 12 to 14 years. But now in many cases it is seen that physical changes are taking place in children before the age of 10 years. The matter is not only physically but also mentally very stressful for a child.
A recent Tell the story. A patient has come to the chamber. Age 10+. A girl's period starts after 10 years of age. Spotting or red discharge started from more than 6 months ago. That is from the age of 9.5 years.
Her period started earlier but her period is not regular. After starting it was off again for 3/4 months. I have had several such patients in the last 6 months. Between 10-12 years of age. Period has started but hormonal imbalance is still there Deficiency of some vitamins and minerals.
And for the past few years, I have seen that girls' periods are starting after they reach class two or three.
Why is that?
Symptoms of premature aging in children today are not isolated incidents; Rather, it is a result of our environmental pollution and extreme disruption of our eating habits.
At the root of this change are Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) and nutrient-poor modern diets.
• Protein and fat Toxicity- Analyzing the current food habits of our children, it is seen that they are more dependent on processed food than natural food.
Broiler chicken has become the main source of protein for our children. Various growth promoters or antibiotics are often used to rapidly grow commercial meat or broiler chickens.
These ingredients go into the body of children and create estrogen mimicryby doing
That is, it mimics hormones like estrogen in the female body. This causes the body to think it is producing too much estrogen, which triggers precocious puberty.
•Omega-6 and Omega-3 Toxicity: Fast food, fried chicken, nuggets and foods fried in soybean oil are high in omega-6. But it can be seen that children eat meat but do not want to eat fish at all.
So the lack of fish or omega-3 in the diet reduces the amount of omega-6 in the bodyIncreases and forms a type of inflammation. This inflammation precipitates puberty by increasing metabolic stress.
• Leptin and insulin resistance: At present, children's maximum diet includes outside food. From tiffins to homemade snacks, flour and sugar are present in everything. Excess sugar, carbonated drinks and starchy foods cause insulin spikes.
Leptin increases body fatMore hormones are released. This leptin sends signals directly to the brain to initiate puberty. This is called the 'critical body fat hypothesis'.
Also sugary drinks (soft drinks), white bread, biscuits and floury foods increase insulin hormone. High insulin directly lowers sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), thereby increasing the amount of free estrogen in the blood.
As a result, early puberty begins. In addition, preservatives in sausage, salami or nuggets used in burger pizzas put pressure on children's liver, which is the main center of hormone metabolism. When pressure is applied to the liver, the hormonal cycle is reversed.
• Stress, screen time and lack of Vitamin-D: Stress is the biggest problem in our society now. Young children have so much studying and pressure to be first that they can think outside the boxno Next comes device addiction.
Especially in cities children have less opportunities to go out and parents are not able to give enough time to children, so they hand over devices. Studying stress and being glued to devices (mobile/tab) are reducing the melatonin hormone in children.
In addition, children do not go out in the sun, there are less opportunities for sports. Lack of adequate sunlight or vitamin-D has also been identified as one of the causes of early puberty in researchproven
•Invisible Chemical Exposure: Endocrine Disruptors (EDCs)-
Along with food, the environment around us is also messing with children's hormonal systems. In the language of science it is called Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs).
Bisphenol A (BPA) and plastics: BPA released from plastic bottles or tiffin boxes behaves like estrogen in the body. It inhibits the normal development of the reproductive system in children.Phthalates and perfumes: Phthalates in baby cosmetics, shampoos or strong fragrances can cause hormonal disruption.
Parabens and Toxins: Preservatives in cosmetics can directly enter the bloodstream and disrupt hormone balance.
What should we do then??
There is no way to save children from these complications without making a total lifestyle change:
• It is important to change the diet first. On broiler chickens Dependence can be reduced by eating native chicken, marine or small fish, eggs and beef.
DIM (Diindolylmethane) in cauliflower, broccoli or cabbage helps to flush out excess estrogen from the body. So you can add it to baby's food.
It is important to encourage eating protein-rich foods and keep a regular diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
• Make sure to avoid plastic and use glass or steel containers orUse good quality plastic.
• Allow children to play in the sun at a certain time during the day. Exercising in the sun for at least 30-60 minutes every day will compensate for vitamin-D deficiency and keep the body's metabolism in order.
🌿 So… What Can Parents Actually Do?
No extreme measures. Just conscious changes:
✔️ Shift toward natural, whole foods
✔️ Include fish, eggs, vegetables like broccoli & cabbage
✔️ Reduce processed and sugary foods
✔️ Let kids play outdoors daily (sunlight matters more than we think)
✔️ Limit screen time
✔️ Use glass or steel instead of plastic when possible
💡 The Truth Is Simple
This isn’t about fear.
It’s about awareness.
Our children’s bodies are responding to the world we’ve created around them.
And small, mindful changes today can protect their tomorrow.
