The Powerful Protection Prayer Before Intimacy: A Guidance from the Prophet (ﷺ)!

In Islam, every act of life, big or small, carries spiritual significance when approached with the right intention and guidance. Even the most intimate moments between a husband and wife can be a source of barakah (blessing) and protection when grounded in the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) taught us a simple yet profound supplication to recite before engaging in marital relations. He said:

"When any one of you wants to have intercourse with his wife, let him say, ‘Bismillaah, Allahumma jannibnaa al-shaytaan wa jannib al-Shaytan ma razaqtana (In the name of Allah. O Allah, keep the Shaytan away from us and from what You bestow upon us).’ Then, if it is decreed that they should have a child, the Shaytan will never be able to harm him.”
[Al-Bukhari (6388) and Muslim (1434)]

The Virtue of This Dua

This hadith is a divine promise of protection and virtue. It highlights that by reciting this dua, if Allah blesses the couple with a child from this union, Shaytan will not harm that child. This incredible assurance offers peace of mind to parents who seek Allah’s protection over their offspring from the very beginning of their existence.

However, it’s important to understand that this does not imply that failing to recite the dua will automatically result in Shaytan harming the child or gaining influence over the act. The hadith emphasizes the added virtue and protection of making the dua, but it does not condemn those who forget or are unaware of it.

What If You Forget?

If someone unintentionally forgets this supplication or is unaware of it, there’s no reason to despair. Allah, in His infinite mercy, considers the sincerity of intentions and pardons unintentional mistakes. As part of the ummah of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), we are blessed with Allah’s forgiveness and compassion when we genuinely strive to follow His guidance.

A Reminder for Couples

This prophetic guidance is a beautiful reminder to incorporate Allah’s remembrance (dhikr) in every aspect of life, even in moments where it might seem least expected. By doing so, you transform an ordinary act into one of worship, secure divine blessings, and set a foundation of protection and peace for your future generations.

Let this be a motivation to strengthen your connection with Allah and share this timeless wisdom with others. Every small act of Sunnah can inspire others, and this could be the beginning of someone else’s journey toward a deeper understanding of faith.
