A brief encounter that reveals a profound truth about wisdom.
At one time, the famous marza of Najaf, Ayatollah Sayed Mohsen Hakim, was on a tour of Arabia. There he met the Mufti of Saudi, bin Baj. Bean Buzz was blind, and at first thought he had come to pay a courtesy call!
But the real intention was to debate the Shias and propagate their own views. Bin Baz asked the question in the meeting:
"Why do Shias believe the external instructions of the Qur'an?No?”
Ayatollah Hakim calmly said:
"This is not the moment for debate, let's just exchange greetings." But Bin Baz was indomitable, demanding answers. Then Ayatollah Hakim said:
"If we rely only on the external meaning of the Qur'an, you will be like that in the Hereafter—blind and misguided."
Bin Baz asked in surprise, "Why?"
Ayatollah Hakim smiled and said:
"Because it is said in the Quran
وَمَنْ كانَ فِیهذِهِ أَعْمی فَهُوَ فِی الْاخِرَهِ أَعْمی وَأَضَلُّ سَبِيلاً
"He who is blind in this world is blind and misguided in the Hereafter." (Isra-72) And you are blind. So only according to external meaning, you will be misguided in the Hereafter as well.” 😁
Here it is revealed that the purpose of the Qur'an is not only written, but it is essential to understand it with sense, intuition and pure intellect!
It was a profound reminder: True understanding isn't just about reading words. It's about engaging heart, intellect, and inner sight. The deepest truths often lie beyond the literal, waiting for a mindful heart to grasp them.
Sometimes, the most powerful lessons remind us to look deeper—not just at texts, but at life, people, and our own hearts.
