We, who are surrounded by countless blessings from Allah every single day, often find ourselves turning away from Him, indulging in disobedience, and ignoring His signs. Despite witnessing His power and mercy in every corner of our lives, our hearts remain unmoved—hardened like stone, or even worse.
Allah Ta’ala describes such hardened hearts in the Qur'an:
"Then your hearts became hardened after that, being like stones or even harder. For indeed, there are stones from which rivers gush forth, and there are some that split open and water flows from them, and there are some that fall down for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unaware of what you do."
(Surah Al-Baqarah, 74)
Even stones, lifeless and cold, soften in fear of Allah—rivers flow from them, and they crumble in submission to His majesty. Yet, despite being the best of His creations, we remain unmoved. Our eyes stay dry, refusing to shed tears of repentance despite our countless sins. While stones roll down from mountain tops in awe of Allah, we hesitate to walk a few steps to the mosque to bow before Him.
Dear brothers and sisters, isn’t it time to pause and reflect? Isn’t it time to soften our hearts, let go of arrogance, and return to Allah?
Let’s not let our hearts grow harder. Instead, let’s strive to purify them and seek Allah’s mercy before it’s too late.
